Chess Class

Taught by National Chess Master, Mr. Alex Weinberg. Chess class teaches critical thinking skills. Learning strategy and planning skills is emphasized over memorizing openings and closings. Class meets once a week from 3:45 to 5pm, each semester. The first half of the class is for teaching, while in the second half, students are paired off to play chess. Mr. Weinberg watches the games and gives individual instruction. Tuition is $175/semester. This spring, OLPH Chess Class sent a student to the San Antonio Chess Tournament, and this first-time tournament player won 3rd place in the city! More information on the benefits of chess to learning and thinking skills is available in the library and in the office.

Dance Class

For younger students, offered in the CDC cafeteria for pre-K3 and up. Classes meet once a week: the pre-K class meets at 2:15, kindergarten on up at 3:45. There is a recital at the end of the year.

Art Class

Offered by My Art Starz, an after school art class that meets once a week in the cafeteria. Extra fee does apply for materials.

Summer Program

Geared towards working families, this is a summer program housed in the CDC. Registration information is sent home in the spring. It concludes in early August, and the program closes the week before school starts.

Summer Reading Program

Mrs. Martinez holds a summer reading program in the Library for students to check out books, read with their families or take AR tests. Open from 9am-12pm on Mondays through Thursdays during designated weeks of summer. Go to www.olphlibrary.pbwiki.com for more information.
